Our Instructors
Alexandru Dascalu (Coach Loopy) – Head Instructor
Alexandru’s martial arts journey began in Courtenay, BC, at the age of 17, where he discovered his passion for Muay Thai through the Master Toddy System. With a love for competition and a desire to grow, Alex moved to Edmonton, AB, to expand his skills. There, he not only developed his Muay Thai techniques but also embraced Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, competing actively in kickboxing and BJJ.
Returning to Vancouver Island, Alex continued to immerse himself in combat sports, focusing on MMA and kickboxing. In 2019, he took his training to the next level at the renowned Tristar Gym in Montreal, where he had the privilege of learning under coach Firas Zahabi and training alongside UFC legend Georges St-Pierre. This experience enriched his understanding of martial arts and refined his techniques.
Although injuries have shifted his primary focus to coaching, Alex remains active as a competitor in BJJ and No-Gi grappling. As the Head Instructor at Dasalcu Muay Thai, he brings a wealth of knowledge, practical experience, and a genuine passion for helping others.
